The Sister Catherine McAuley Award is the highest award conferred each year upon the graduate who began their university career at Mount Mercy as a first-year student and who, in addition to academic excellence, exemplifies leadership, service, integrity in personal relationships, and loyalty in furthering the ideals of Mount Mercy University. The award is named for Sister Catherine McAuley, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in Ireland in 1831.
Quinn was recognized by nominators for his intellectual curiosity, compassion for others, and commitment to service throughout his four years at Mount Mercy. One nominator shared, "Quinn is an exceptionally thoughtful and sharp student whose classroom contributions always carry a degree of nuance, creativity, and humanity. His profound engagement with the materials in his courses and with his classmates are emblematic of the potential one can cultivate within a liberal arts education."
In addition to competing as a member of the cross country and track teams, Quinn was deeply involved in campus life. He served as a tutor in the Academic Center for Excellence, where he became known as one of the university's top anatomy and biology tutors. Quinn was also involved in MMU Dance Marathon and Emmaus and found a strong sense of community in Bread Club, where he served as an executive officer.
Most notably, Quinn spent the last two years serving as a campus peer minister, embodying Mount Mercy's Mercy values through service, inclusion, and leadership.
"He epitomizes the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy," another nominator said. "Quinn works hard, goes above and beyond to serve others, and persists with an indomitable spirit despite turbulence and setbacks. Quinn lives his faith out loud, befriending students who need a boost and ensuring no one is overlooked. His character is consistent no matter where he is or who he is with. Quinn strives for excellence in an inclusive, driven, optimistic way. Quinn leaves Mount Mercy University better than he found it."
Through his leadership, service, and dedication to the common good, Quinn made a lasting impact on the Mount Mercy community.
Congratulations, Quinn!
