Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and the Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) made a visit to the Indian Naval Ship (INS) 'SATPURA' at the Port of Colombo yesterday (23 September).
The INS SATPURA, an Indian Navy frigate, arrived in the island's waters on Saturday morning (20 September) to fulfil its logistical and service requirements. The Sri Lanka Navy traditionally welcomed the ship at the Port of Colombo.
The dignitaries visiting the ship were warmly received by the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha and the Commanding Officer of the ship, Captain Vikas Garg.
Following a brief presentation by the Commanding Officer on the ship's capabilities, the assembled guests took a tour of the vessel. This was followed by a cultural presentation featuring vibrant Indian traditional elements and a reception.
A large number of attendees were present at the event, including ministers, senior public administration officials, the Commanders of the Navy and Air Force along with senior tri-forces officers and diplomatic officials from various countries.
This official visit by the Indian Naval Ship to Sri Lanka once again affirms the strong Indo-Sri Lanka relations that have existed since ancient times, as well as the commitment of both parties towards regional security cooperation.
