The Cameron University Percussion Ensemble will take the stage April 20 for a night filled of drums, rhythms and melodies. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the University Theatre.
Under the direction of Cameron assistant music professor Dr. Cy Miessler, the ensemble will showcase its talents on a variety of percussion instruments. Student soloists will also be featured throughout the program.
Opening the concert is "Breakdown" by Bradley Slayter, an exciting and groovy piece, followed by Kevin Bobo's "Hemispheres" and "Three Scenes from the Desert" by Alex Stopa. Eric Texter's "Polar Night" is a beautiful combination of sounds featuring tuned wooden boards and bowed vibraphones. "Double Drum Dutch" by Ayanna Woods follows, with the program closing out with "Gravity" by Marc Mellits, a beautiful minimalistic keyboard quintet that will stick in your ears for long after the concert ends.
Percussion ensemble personnel are CU students Darnell Collins, Alexander Cook, Alyssa Price, Nicolas Raso, Bellamarie Saucedo, Damein Shugard and Blaize Wright, all from Lawton; and Mykayla Waller of Altus.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for military with proper identification, seniors and students in grades K-8. Service fees will apply. Cameron students, faculty and staff receive a free ticket by showing valid CU identification.
