On Thursday, President Gitanas NausÄ—da delivered a message of welcome to participants to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) MISTI program conference in Lithuania, entitled "Human and More-Than-Human Futures: Innovating Technologies for Coexistence"
According to the President, the year-long strategic partnership between the Lithuanian Science and Business Consortium and MIT, known as "MIT MISTI Lithuania," makes a significant contribution to knowledge sharing and scientific progress.
"Investment in science, technology, and education is a strategic priority for Lithuania. For us, innovation is not a luxury but the foundation of resilience. Our partnership with MIT reflects a conscious choice to connect Lithuanian institutions and talent with the world's leading ideas, emphasizing our country's role as a center for life sciences, clean energy, and digital innovation. Together with the United States, we are creating a transatlantic knowledge alliance aimed at strengthening prosperity and security," the President wrote in his congratulatory message.
He underlined that it is particularly important for Lithuania to contribute to finding a healthy balance between human needs, technology and nature. It is essential to ensure that the people of Lithuania can live in an environment that guarantees a high quality of life, while also having access to quality education and responsible artificial intelligence.
"Ultimately, the true measure of success in science and innovation is not patents and scientific publications, but the extent to which a free society is strengthened and justice, resilience, and human dignity are upheld," the President added.
The MIT MISTI program in Lithuania is implemented by a consortium of the country's universities, research centers, and businesses actively engaged in international science and innovation cooperation projects.
The international conference "Human and More Than Human Futures: Technological Innovations for Coexistence" is being held in Vilnius on October 9 and in Kaunas on October 10.
