Minister of National Defence N. Dendias Participates in Informal Meeting of EU Defence Ministers

On Tuesday 01 September 2026, the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, participated in the Informal Meeting of EU Defence Ministers, which took place in Wicklow, Ireland.

During the informal meeting, the Ministers of Defence discussed the latest developments in Ukraine and the EU Space Strategy for Security and Defence.

During the working lunch, the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas briefed the EU Ministers of Defence on the situation in the Middle East and maritime security.

Upon arrival at the Informal Meeting of EU Defence Ministers, Mr. Dendias stated:

"Today, in the framework of the Informal Meeting of EU Defence Ministers, apart from Ukraine and the Middle East, we will discuss the challenges that new developments in space, cyberspace, ballistic missiles, and drones pose for European defence and security.

Greece has input to offer in this dialogue. The "Agenda 2030" and the "Achilles' Shield" are the first holistic European attempt to face all those threats.

I would also like to say that, after last night's signing of the contract for the anti-aircraft, anti-drone, anti-ballistic dome, Greece is laying productive foundations on European soil and creating the capability to face those new threats.

I also intend to discuss with my colleagues and explain to them what a challenge revisionism in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Aegean, and Thrace is for European territory, defence, security, and citizens".
