Kenny Chesney Wishes For Memory Of A Goldfish In Lighthearted Breakup Story

Kenny Chesney wishes he had the memory of a goldfish.

The 2025 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee released "Goldfish," featuring Lily Meola, from his upcoming studio album on Friday (August 28). Gordie Sampson, Tenille Townes and Tia Sillers teamed up on the creatively-written heartbreak ballad. "Goldfish" balances the sorrow of a split with Chesney's signature lighthearted, breezy musical style. The East Tennessee-born country star shared in a clip on Instagram earlier this week that he and his band wrapped up his run of shows at Sphere Las Vegas, and traveled to Maui, Hawaii. The team filmed the music video on the beach.

"After our Sphere shows, I brought the whole band to Maui to shoot a music video for a song called 'Goldfish,'" he said. "'Goldfish' is on the new album coming out called Silver Sands Marina, and I gotta tell you, the first time that I heard 'Goldfish,' it was a little confusing because at its core, it's a breakup song. It's about someone getting over someone. But the song made me feel so happy. …This is one of the happiest breakup songs that I have really ever heard."

"Right now, I wish/ I had the memory of a goldfish/ What's love? Who gives a s***?/ I wouldn't even have a clue/ Snug as a bug, happy as a clam/ Blissfully, I wouldn't give a damn, but here I am/ Drunk as a skunk in a honky tonk/ Just trying to get over you"

"Goldfish" is the latest song to release from Chesney's upcoming 11-track album, Silver Sands Marina, following the title track, "Burn My Boat" and "Carry On." Chesney, who produced "Goldfish," previously said Silver Sands Marina "was built with human emotions that make us feel alive." The album will release on September 25.
