Gov. Braun Thanks Indiana 211 Team Connecting Storm-Impacted Hoosiers with Critical Resources
Governor encourages Hoosiers to use new texting service as federal disaster assistance becomes available
INDIANAPOLIS - Governor Mike Braun visited Indiana 211 today to thank the team responsible for connecting Hoosiers impacted by the recent severe storms and flooding with food, housing, disaster relief and other resources available in their communities.
Indiana 211's website and call line (by calling 2-1-1) have served as a central point of connection throughout the state's response and recovery. Gov. Braun announced this week that Hoosiers can now also access disaster resources by text, making it even easier to find help. Residents can text IN211HELP to 898-211, enter their ZIP code and select the type of assistance they need to receive a list of available resources in their area.
"Indiana 211 has been a steady and important resource for storm-impacted Hoosiers, helping people find food, shelter, cleanup assistance and so many other resources when they need them most," said Gov. Braun. "I stopped by today to personally thank the team behind that work. As we move further into recovery, their work is more important than ever, and the new texting service makes it even easier for Hoosiers to get connected with help."
The visit comes as additional recovery resources become available following President Donald Trump's approval of Gov. Braun's request for a Major Disaster Declaration through FEMA. The declaration currently makes Individual Assistance available in 21 Indiana counties and Public Assistance available in 11 counties. Additional counties remain under review.
Individual Assistance can help eligible Hoosiers with needs such as temporary housing, home repairs and certain uninsured or underinsured disaster-related losses. Hoosiers in approved counties can begin the FEMA application process now.
Counties approved for Individual Assistance:
Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union, and Wayne Counties.
Counties approved for Public Assistance:
Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Porter, Tipton, and Wayne Counties.
More information and resources available to Hoosiers can be found on Governor Mike Braun's website here.
