Yaw: Over $2 Million Awarded to Strengthen Housing Opportunities Across 23rd District

HARRISBURG - State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) today announced the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) Board of Directors approved the release of $2,075,000 in Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) funding to be distributed across Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties.

"PHARE is a crucial part of our overall effort to improve our economy and provide affordable housing to our region's residents," Yaw said. "This funding is a substantial investment across the 23rd Senate District and will certainly provide help to those who need it most. It is important to acknowledge these dollars are made available, in large part, due to our natural gas industry."

The projects awarded funding include:

Bradford County:

  • Trehab - Bradford Co. Homeownership Assistance Program - $200,000
  • Bradford Co. - Housing Specialist - $150,000
  • Bradford Co. - Landlord Rehabilitation Fund - $125,000
  • Bradford Co. - Manufactured Housing Rehabilitation Program - $125,000
  • Endless Mountain Mission Center - Shelter and Street Outreach - $100,000

Lycoming County:

  • City of Williamsport - City of Williamsport and STEP, Inc., Homes in Need - $175,000
  • Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity - Home Preservation Program - $50,000
  • Greater Lycoming Habitat for Humanity - Path to Homeownership - $100,000
  • Lycoming Co. Planning and Community Development - STEP, Inc., - Homes in Need - $150,000
  • Lycoming Co. Planning and Community Development - STEP, Inc., - Housing Support Programs - $150,000
  • YWCA Williamsport/Northcentral PA - Liberty House - $150,000

Sullivan County:

  • Sullivan Co. Human Services and Housing Authority - Housing Stability Program - $100,000

Tioga County:

  • United Christian Ministries - The Sister Jenny Charities - $300,000

Union County:

  • Union Co. Housing Authority - Bridge Housing Program - $100,000
  • Union-Snyder Community Action Agency - Comprehensive Housing Program - $100,000

The PHFA works to provide affordable homeownership and rental housing options for older adults, low- and moderate-income families and people with special housing needs. PHFA programs and operations are funded primarily by the sale of securities and from fees paid by program users, not by public tax dollars. The agency is governed by a 14-member board.
