City Accepting Applications for the 2026-2027 Norman Youth Council Term

The City of Norman is seeking high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who desire to be active in their community and are interested in participating in local government. The City is currently accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Norman Youth Council Term. In addition to providing a completed application, applicants will need to provide two (2) letters of recommendation from adults familiar with their leadership skills and service to the community. Applications open on March 23rd, 2026 and are due by July 17th, 2026. Successful applicants will be appointed to the Norman Youth Council at the July 28th, 2026, City Council meeting-no attendance is required.

Appointed Youth Councilors will serve a term from August 2026 through May 2027. There are sixteen (16) spots on the Norman Youth Council, and such spots will be limited to two (2) terms of service only if there are more applicants than spots available. The Norman Youth Council will meet the second Monday of every month during the school year from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., except in May 2027, when they will meet the last Tuesday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Norman Youth Council will focus on an advocacy project during the term, with the opportunity to meet and have discussions with City Officials as well as tour City facilities, listen to presentations, and have Q&A sessions with City Staff and community stakeholders regarding their selected advocacy project topic. The Youth Council will present their advocacy project to City Council during the May 2027 monthly meeting with a celebratory reception to follow.
