Sass presents on AI, assessment and human-centered design

Margaret Sass presented at two national higher education conferences in January and February 2026, sharing practical and research-informed approaches to using artificial intelligence to make student learning more visible and meaningful. On Jan. 31, 2026, Sass spoke at the 13th Annual Student Learning Outcomes Symposium, hosted by the California Outcomes Assessment Coordinators' Hub. The symposium focused on the theme "Assessment of What Students Can Do: Making Learning Observable," bringing together higher education professionals committed to advancing student-centered assessment practices. At the symposium, Sass presented on the use of AI tools to support and assess observable learning outcomes in a fully online community-based learning course.

In addition, Sass presented at the 2026 Digital Teaching & Learning Conference on Feb. 5, 2026, a fully virtual national event hosted by UPCEA. The session, "Beyond Simulation: Co-Designing With AI Personas for Human-Centered Innovation," explored how AI personas can move beyond simulation to become co-creators in teaching and design practice. The session included a live demonstration, hands-on activities, and ready-to-use prompts for instructional designers, faculty developers, and online educators focused on designing the future of digital learning.
