MASJID USM BATHED IN LIGHTS, WELCOMING THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY TO ENLIVEN RAMADAN

Posted on 27 February 2026.

USM PENANG, 27 February 2026 - Masjid Al-Malik Khalid at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is now bathed in lights to welcome the month of Ramadan 1447H, creating a joyful and lively atmosphere for the campus community.

The initiative by the USM Department of Facilities Development and Management (JPPF) to brighten the grounds of the masjid has successfully transformed the night-time ambience at the Main Campus. Decorative lights now illuminate the palm trees and surrounding landscape as Maghrib approaches.

The reflections on the dome and minaret further enhance the architecture of Masjid Al-Malik Khalid, which stands as a source of pride for the university.

At the same time, the lighting creates a more welcoming environment for the congregation to perform Tarawih prayers and participate in other Ihya' Ramadan activities.

Director of Pusat Islam (Islamic Centre) USM, Ustaz Zayd Zhari, explained that the effort to create a cheerful atmosphere for the house of Allah is not merely decorative.

"It symbolises the university's desire to celebrate the greatness of Islam and to encourage the culture of coming to the masjid throughout Ramadan," he said.

"Ramadan is the month that unites all Muslims. A vibrant and cheerful space can attract more people from the campus and surrounding communities to gather at the masjid and devote themselves to ibadah," he added.

He also expressed gratitude to the USM JPPF team for their commitment and support in ensuring that Masjid Al-Malik Khalid continues to serve as the spiritual focal point of the university.

With its livelier and more harmonious atmosphere, Masjid Al-Malik Khalid is now not only a place to draw closer to Allah, but also a symbol of unity for the USM community in observing the blessed month of Ramadan.
