In a poignant reunion, two children who survived a fatal fire in January came to visit the firefighters who helped save their lives. Thirteen-year-old Sanaika Decimy, dressed in fire turnout gear, is a students at HOB and her brother, 15-year old Jean Decimy is a student at Key West High School and a member of the marching band.
In February, Mayor Danise "DeeDee" Henriquez and City Manager Brian L. Barroso commended each of the first responders - fire and police - who quickly put out the fire. Tragically the fire claimed the lives of the two parents and two small children.
"It is heart-warming to see these brave children survive and thrive after such a terrible tragedy," said Fire Chief Alan Averette.
