Scalise: House Republicans are Lowering Costs and Bringing Back American Manufacturing

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Fox Business Network's Mornings with Fox Business to discuss House Republicans' efforts to lower costs, Senate Democrats' obstruction, and America's manufacturing boom thanks to President Trump's leadership.

Highlights from Leader Scalise's interview:

On Democrats' failed policies to lower costs:

"If you look at the Democrats' answer to gas prices, it's to shut down production and have California gas prices because California is the model for what they want for the nation. And by the way, the prices you just showed, it's $2 more per gallon in California than in the rest of the country because of their crazy far-left policies...

"Republicans actually put more money in the pockets of working families with the Working Families Tax Cut. You know, you're an overtime worker, a shift worker, a cop, somebody who's a nurse maybe who's working extra hours. You have $3,000, $4,000 more in your pocket because of what we did. And every Democrat voted no. And not only that, they're running on a platform of taking that money back away from you, giving it back to the fraudsters, the learing centers in Minnesota."

On Democrats obstructing key legislation in the Senate:

"I share [Whip] Tom [Emmer]'s frustration. I've talked about this too. I mean, there's over 700 really important bills that are over in the Senate right now. And Chuck Schumer's, I think, exploited and abused the filibuster to the point where it really does raise the question, does it really serve a purpose anymore? It's not in those great parchment documents. It's a tradition that's been around for less than 100 years and it's being abused by Democrats to block progress. For example, the farm bill is over in the Senate. They're not moving it. The Save America Act, something that would really be important to have in law. We passed it 5 different times in the House. It's over in the Senate. The National Defense Authorization Actto set the priorities for defending our nation is still sitting over there. And a whole host of other bills like that. You mentioned permitting reform, something that allows to lower costs. You want to lower costs for housing, for road projects, to build more things in America. That bill will do that by crushing a lot of the red tape that's out there. We have some good fraud prevention bills to shut down more of the Learing Center type things that you saw in Minneapolis. There's a lot of other kind of fraud going on that we need to pass laws to go after. Democrats are blocking those bills. By the way, the bill to ban members of Congress from trading stocks, Democrats killed that bill in the Senate last week, passed the House. And it's over in the Senate. And the Democrats voted to kill a bill that would have blocked members of Congress from trading stocks. By the way, go look at how the polling is on that issue. It's radioactive. And yet Democrats don't care."

On President Trump bringing back manufacturing to America:

"This is another example of President Trump bringing manufacturing back to the United States. I'm proud that Louisiana is being a part of that growth. Other states are as well. But our Governor Jeff Landry was critical in helping that Avondale facility that we imported all of that steel, brought it to the dock there on the Mississippi River. Secretary Burgum, as you mentioned, was there, and he talked about all of the other products that will be made in America now with that aluminum that used to be made in other countries. And again, President Trump is the one who said we're going to start making more things in America again. And that's why you're seeing this manufacturing boom in the United States. We surely are seeing it in Louisiana. I'm proud of that. There's other states that are benefiting from it, too. Any, any state that wants to grow right now, you know, you're seeing some of these blue anti-business states maybe where people are leaving. They're not seeing that same success. But look at all the states that are growing right now. States that are saying, yes, we want to build things in America again. It's billions of dollars each facility, trillions coming into the United States again because of President Trump's leadership, which, by the way, leads to higher wages for American workers. More jobs, higher wages."
