ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University's quad will become center stage Sept. 1 as the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival TourCo makes its campus debut with a free outdoor performance of Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by Rebekah Scallet.
"SLU has enjoyed a longstanding partnership with the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival, including sponsoring productions and volunteering as a featured community partner," said Kris Siebert, director of donor relations. "Having the opportunity to host the theatre company on campus deepens SLU's connection to the arts throughout the St. Louis community while also bringing an engaging cultural experience to all our attendees."
The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and community members. Doughboy's Wood Fired Pizza, Go Gyro Go and Scoops & More food trucks will open at 5 p.m., offering refreshments for purchase. Complimentary parking will be available in the Laclede Garage.
The event is free, but registration is required for students, alumni, faculty, staff and donors.
Nancy Bell, a SLU theater professor and a member of the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival community for the past several years, will join the event and speak with donors. She most recently starred as Prospero in Shakespeare in the Park's production of The Tempest.
The evening will also feature a special preview of the imaginative animal puppets created by Michael Curry Design for St. Louis Shakespeare Festival's upcoming production, Romeo and Zooliet, which runs Sept. 24 to Oct. 11 in Forest Park. Michael Curry Design is internationally recognized for its award-winning puppetry and visual effects work on Broadway's The Lion King.
