The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today participated in New York City Career Discovery Week by hosting two full-day events with students from Thomas Edison CTE High School at the Zerega Maintenance and Training Facility in the Bronx as well as students from Transit Tech Career and Technical Education High School at Grand Central Terminal. Students were given the opportunity to explore a variety of careers within the Authority and engaged in interactive panels with representatives from New York City Transit, MTA Construction and Development, Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and the MTA Police Department (MTAPD).

The program at the Zerega Maintenance and Training Facility focused on bus operation and maintenance. New York City Transit Executive Vice President of Buses Frank Farrell welcomed students and gave them a tour of the facility including the maintenance training school and safety training area. They also got a firsthand look at a fleet of vintage buses used for special events and learned how mechanics maintain them.

Students from Transit Tech Career and Technical Education High School started the day with a question and answer session with representatives from New York City Transit, MTA Construction and Development, Long Island Rail Road, and Metro-North Railroad. The students also participated in an architectural tour of Grand Central Terminal and watched a demonstration from the MTAPD K-9 Unit.
