The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has held a meeting with the new CEO of the Renault Group, François Provost, to discuss the Executive's support for the automotive sector and future challenges. Also in attendance were the Minister for Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu; the Director of the Office of Economic Affairs and G-20, Manuel de la Rocha, and the President of Renault Spain and Director of Strategy and Business Development for the Renault Group, Josep María Recasens.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the Government's firm commitment to the automotive sector in recent years, through instruments such as the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Among the most recent initiatives is the launch last June, by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, of the fourth call for proposals for the PERTE for the development of the Electric and Connected Vehicle (VEC), endowed with 1.25 billion euros. This fourth edition, managed by Sepides and specifically designed to promote the creation of new industrial establishments, expand production capacities in existing plants and convert production lines to manufacture innovative products, will continue to be rolled out with new calls in the coming months.
Spain is promoting digital and energy transformation at European level as major drivers of the modernisation and transformation of industry, with a clear roadmap for the green transition.
At the meeting, they also discussed Spain's leadership in the commitment to electric, connected and sustainable mobility and progress towards technological sovereignty in Spain and Europe, as well as the Renault Group's industrial plans. The national car market has accumulated fourteen consecutive months of growth, after closing October with a 16% increase and almost 100,000 new registrations, according to the latest data from the associations Anfac, Faconauto and Ganvam.
