In a heartwarming coincidence at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, two families, who had never met before, welcomed baby boys with the same name just minutes apart on October 27. Born to different parents, in different rooms and from different hometowns, these two little boys now share a special story from their very first moments of life.
Myles Retzer of Riverview made his entrance first at 12:43pm, weighing 6 pounds, 14 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. Just eleven minutes later, Miles Bartz of Plant City arrived at 12:54pm, weighing 4 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 18.5 inches long. Both babies were born handsome, healthy and ready to take on the world.
Before being discharged, the Retzer and Bartz families had the opportunity to meet and mark the special moment with a photo together.
"This was such a special and unique moment to be part of," said Dr. Emily Richter, MD, obstetrician at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. "In all my years, I can't recall witnessing two babies with the same name born so close together. Birth stories are always memorable, but this is one these families and our team won't forget."
Lauren Youngberg, nurse manager for Women's Services, shared how meaningful the moment was for staff as well. "Watching the families meet and seeing the joy and surprise in their faces truly made our day," she said. "It reminds us why we do what we do. This is a moment we will remember and treasure, and who knows, maybe these boys will grow up together or even graduate side-by-side one day."
HCA Florida Brandon Hospital is honored to have played a role in this special beginning and remains committed to providing exceptional care to growing families across the community.
