WASHINGTON, DC (July 15, 2026) - Today, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) voted in favor of Congressman Thomas Massie's amendment to restrict U.S. military assistance to Israel, while opposing the underlying Republican National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP/SFOPS) appropriations bill. Congresswoman Foushee released the following statement regarding the vote:
"Congress has a responsibility to ensure that U.S. taxpayer dollars are used responsibly and that our foreign policy reflects our values, humanitarian standards, and national security interests. Today, I supported Congressman Massie's amendment because Congress must exercise its oversight role and ensure accountability in how U.S. military assistance is provided.
"Although I support this amendment, I do not support the broader Republican funding bill. This legislation weakens America's national security by cutting critical diplomatic, humanitarian, and development programs that help prevent conflict, respond to crises, and strengthen communities around the world. This bill also includes extreme ideological riders, including provisions targeting women, LGBTQI+ communities, and vulnerable people, as well as the Republican-backed SAVE Act, which would make it harder for eligible Americans to exercise their right to vote. The inclusion of the SAVE Act transforms this already harmful bill into a direct attack on our democracy that must be rejected wholeheartedly and without hesitation."
