Road closures; Transit detours announced for Rock the Chalk on Aug. 7

Road closures have been announced for Rock the Chalk in Downtown Iowa City on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026.

The following roads will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. and are expected to reopen around 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7:

• Washington Street from Clinton Street to Linn Street
• Linn Street from Iowa Avenue to the alley north of the Iowa City Public Library.

Dubuque Street from Iowa Avenue to Washington remains closed due to construction.

The following eastbound bus routes will detour during the event:

• 1-South Iowa City
• 2-Court Street
• 9-Towncrest

These routes will detour using Clinton Street to Burlington Street instead of traveling eastbound on Washington Street. The inbound trips for these bus routes will not be affected.

The following bus stops will not be serviced during the event:

• Washington Street and Linn Street (#7200)
• Washington Street and Gilbert Street (#7201)

Normal service will resume on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026.
