Virtualware's track record in defense

In recent years, Virtualware has become a strategic partner in the field of technological innovation applied to defense, with pioneering solutions that have crossed borders and gained international recognition.

In 2020, the company was selected under the Scientific Research and Technological Development Cooperation Program in Strategic Technologies (COINCIDENTE) to develop SIMUR, a virtual reality training simulator for the Military Health School (EMISAN). The main goal of the program was to leverage technologies within the framework of the National R&D Plan, incorporating innovative technological solutions of interest to the Ministry of Defense and fostering the industrial, scientific, and technological ecosystem dedicated to defense.

Powered by VIROO, Virtualware's enterprise XR platform, SIMUR enables EMISAN teams to train in highly complex environments, evaluating and improving critical skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and decision-making under extreme pressure. Specifically, the simulator reproduces NATO-standard medical protocols in CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) scenarios, where reaction capability can make the difference between success and failure.

In 2022, SIMUR was selected to be showcased at the NATO Modelling & Simulation Group Annual Symposium and at I/ITSEC, the world's largest event in the field held annually in Orlando (USA), where Virtualware also demonstrated its capabilities at the Microsoft Federal partner booth. That same year, the Ministry of Defense appointed the company as Spain's representative to NATO, consolidating its role in the international research and development ecosystem.

Since then, Virtualware has actively participated in three working groups of NATO's Modelling and Simulation Group (NMSG) within the Science and Technology Organization (STO), focusing on the use of immersive technologies for military training. One of the follow-up meetings of these projects was held at the Naval Command in Bilbao, with the participation of 19 international experts, including the Head of Infectious Diseases at the Central Defense Hospital and military healthcare personnel specialized in simulation.

Virtualware's European presence continued in 2023, when the Ministry of Defense and the Directorate General of Armament and Material (DGAM) invited the company to be part of Spain's stand at the second edition of the European Defence Innovation Days, organized by the European Defence Agency (EDA). This event has become a key showcase for presenting tangible results of defense innovation, with the participation of senior representatives from governments, armed forces, European institutions, and industry.

In December 2024, Spain's Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, visited the facilities of the Central Defense Academy to experience firsthand how this technology works, emphasizing its value for the preparedness of the Armed Forces.

Furthermore, Virtualware has maintained an active presence in strategic NATO forums such as TIDE Sprint, Toxic Trip, CA2X2 Forum, and at the latest edition of FEINDEF, held in Madrid in May 2025.

By joining TEDAE, Virtualware reinforces its commitment to Spanish defense and joins a key ecosystem to drive innovation and competitiveness across the sector.
