Written answer by Ministry of National Development on framework for selective acquisition of privately-owned HDB shophouses and data on units acquired

Question No: 1453

Question by: Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong

To ask the Minister for National Development (a) since September 2025, whether the HDB has decided on any selective acquisition of privately-owned HDB shophouses where essential services are determined to be insufficiently supplied; (b) if so, how many units have been or are in the process of being acquired; and (c) whether formal and published acquisition criteria have since been established.

Answer:

HDB has not acquired or identified any privately-owned HDB shops for acquisition since September 2025. As we explained previously, such acquisitions will be done selectively and only when it is necessary to do so.

The assessment will be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account factors such as the overall supply of shops in the area, and whether there are sufficient essential services meeting residents' needs.
