On December 19, Chinese Ambassador to Iceland He Rulong called on Minister of Justice Þorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir. Counsellor Yang Jing attended the meeting.
Ambassador He noted that the meeting between the two heads of state and the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women this year were both highly successful. He stated that China is ready to work together with Iceland to act on the important consensus reached by two heads of state, further deepen cooperation in areas such as justice, gender equality, and people-to-people exchanges, with a view to bringing greater benefits to the two countries and their peoples. Ambassador He also briefed the Minister on the launch of the Hainan Free Trade Port and its island-wide special customs operations. He noted that this marks a milestone in China's opening-up, and will provide broader opportunities for countries to have economic cooperation and trade with China.
Minister Gunnlaugsdóttir said she was pleased to be part of President Halla Tómasdóttir's delegation on her visit to China last October for the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women. She noted that an increasing number of Icelanders are showing strong interest in China's rapid development. Iceland stands ready to further strengthen people-to-people exchanges and cooperation with China, so as to promote the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations.
