The SCO Secretary-General Visits the CICA Secretariat

The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Nurlan Yermekbayev, visited the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) at its new headquarters in Astana.

He held a meeting with CICA Secretary-General Kairat Sarybay. The parties discussed current issues of cooperation between the secretariats of the two organizations based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2014 in Shanghai.

During the conversation, they emphasized that the development of practical interaction between the executive bodies of the SCO and CICA, including joint initiatives and the organization of events, serves the interests of the states belonging to both organizations. It was noted that over the past two years, the interaction between the SCO and CICA Secretariats has become even more systematic and dynamic. Future plans include holding a number of joint events in 2026.

Nurlan Yermekbayev noted the progressive nature of CICA's institutional development and its process of transformation into a full-fledged international organization, wishing them success in their future work.

The SCO Secretary-General toured the new building complex of the CICA Secretariat.
