President met with Zelenskyy in Kyiv: Lithuania to strengthen support for Ukraine’s defence and European integration

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv to discuss Lithuania's support for Ukraine, bilateral defence collaboration, and Ukraine's EU integration efforts.

The Head of State emphasised that Lithuania stands firmly with Ukraine and will continue to provide comprehensive support - political, military, economic, and humanitarian - for as long as the Ukrainian people need it in their fight for freedom.

The meeting addressed the situation on the front lines and Ukraine's needs, particularly in air defence. The President highlighted that Lithuania values Ukraine's efforts to achieve peace, whereas Russia continues to escalate and attack civilians, showing no genuine interest in negotiations.

The President emphasised that Ukraine's EU membership is a crucial security guarantee and a strategic investment in Europe's future. Lithuania will back Ukraine's efforts to attain full EU membership by 2030, with its integration being a top priority during Lithuania's Presidency of the EU Council.

The President emphasised Lithuania's stance that negotiations with Ukraine on all remaining clusters should commence promptly. He also highlighted the need to maintain unity between Ukraine's government and society and urged faster progress in implementing reforms.

The Head of State emphasised that Lithuania and Ukraine are continuing to strengthen their cooperation in the defence industry. The President highlighted notable progress in implementing the Lithuanian-Ukrainian drone agreement.
