Rest Area, & Highway Ramp/Lane Closures
Interstate 5 And State Routes 99 & 152

Merced County - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Routes 99 (SR-99) & SR-152 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

Interstate 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Area on southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 1, 2026.
    • ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists traveling southbound are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

State Route 99

  • Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at East SR-140 for electrical work on Monday, April 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at East Atwater Over-Crossing for electrical work on Monday, April 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

State Route 152

  • Double right lane closures on westbound SR-152 from the Passing Lane to the Santa Clara/Merced County Line for pavement work beginning Monday, April 6, through Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Single right lane closure on eastbound SR-152 from the Passing Lane to San Luis Dam Service Road for pavement work beginning Wednesday, April 8, through Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Single right lane closure on eastbound SR-152 from San Luis Dam Service Road to Romero Vista Point for pavement work on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. All work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
