COLUMBUS, Ohio - Majority Whip Nick Santucci (R-Niles) today announced that the Ohio Department of Development has released guidelines for the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program.
In House Bill 96, Ohio's State Operating Budget, the General Assembly allocated $200 million for the program. As required by the bill, $1 million is reserved for applicants in each of Ohio's 88 counties and will be awarded via a merit-based process. The application opens November 12th at 10 a.m. and will close on December 5th at 5 p.m.
"To attract economic growth to the Lake to River region, we must have available, shovel-ready sites and facilities where companies can move in and begin production," said Santucci. "The Brownfield Remediation Program is a vital investment in our communities' future. Across the Lake to River region, these sites remind us of our strong industrial roots and the potential that still exists here. By repurposing these properties, we're opening doors to new economic development and job creation throughout Ohio. This program will strengthen our region by leveraging the character of our communities to transform long-neglected sites into engines of growth and opportunity."
The Brownfield Remediation Program provides funding to help clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites that are abandoned, idled, or underutilized due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum.
