CDOT will begin repairing pavement in both directions of I-70 from Chambers Road to the E-470 interchange in late August

Project Announcement

Adams County - Starting on Monday, Aug. 31, the Colorado Department of Transportation and contract partner, Villalobos Concrete, Inc., will begin repairing and replacing concrete pavement in both directions of Interstate 70 from Chambers Road to just east of the E-470 interchange. The purpose of this project is to improve safety and mobility along a 6.6-mile stretch of the I-70 corridor. The project will last for about 16 months, with schedule adjustments during the winter months.

Primary work includes replacing and grinding concrete pavement panels to provide a safe, smooth driving surface, and repairing and repaving the decks of four bridge structures within the project limits. The concrete pavement along this busy section of I-70 needs replacement due to age, disrepair and becoming unseated over time under heavy traffic. These repairs will stop further road damage and ensure long-term safety for the traveling public.

"This section of the I-70 corridor carries extremely high volumes of traffic year-round," said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Jessica Myklebust. "These much-needed pavement and bridge deck repairs will provide the traveling public with a smooth roadway and enhanced safety for years to come," she added.

The project is located on the I-70 corridor, from just east of Chambers Road (Exit 283) at Mile Point 283.5 to just east of the E-470 Interchange (Exit 289) at MP 290.1 in Adams County. The bridges are located in both directions of I-70 over the Highline Canal at MP 285.882, just east of Tower Road, and over the Union Pacific Rail Road (UPRR) and Smith Road at MP 286.772, just west of the new Picadilly Road Interchange.

Work will take place Monday to Sunday, with working hours split between daytime and overnight shifts.

Traffic Impacts

The following traffic impacts can be expected during construction:

• Various seven-day, continuous single lane closures will exist in both directions of I-70, east of the Picadilly Road Interchange
• Weekday single lane closures will be in place on westbound I-70 at the east end of the project corridor, and anytime on weekends
• Overnight single lane closures will exist in both directions of I-70 sitewide during varying hours, Sunday to Thursday
• Overnight double lane closures in both directions of I-70 at the west end of the project from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday to Thursday
• Friday and Saturday overnight single and double lane closures can also be expected sitewide during certain work activities
• Traffic shifts, reduced speeds and a 12-foot width restriction will be in place sitewide
• Shoulder closures will be taken during daytime and overnight hours for access to the work zone.

• Watch for workers. Drive with caution.

• Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
• Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
• Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
• Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
• Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
• Be patient!
