On March 13, 2026, in Astana, the delegation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Observer Mission for the republican referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan continued its work.
The observers took part in a meeting of the Central Referendum Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, during which the leadership of the Commission provided information on the progress of preparations for the voting day on March 15. Reports from territorial commissions and akimats (administrations) of cities and regions of the country were presented. The participants emphasized on checking the preparedness of polling stations, their material and technical equipment, organizing training for commission members, informing citizens, issuing absentee certificates, and on familiarizing people with the lists of referendum participants.
The SCO Mission continues observation work in Kazakhstan
SCO Deputy Secretary-General Oleg Kopylov held a working meeting with First Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Head of the CIS Observer Mission Igor Petrishenko. They traditionally exchanged information on the work of observer groups in the framework of preparing and conducting the referendum and discussed current aspects of cooperation between the two organizations.
The SCO Mission visited the headquarters of the nationwide coalition "For the People's Constitution of a Just and Progressive Kazakhstan!" in the capital. The head of the headquarters, Yerlan Kanalimov, spoke about the coalition's activities aimed at conducting systematic work to explain the constitutional initiatives to the country's population.
