The Indigenous Career Navigator Program (ICNP) (accessible only on the National Defence network) reflects the Department of National Defence's (DND) ongoing commitment to advancing reconciliation and building strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples.

Through this program, Indigenous Career Navigators provide culturally informed guidance to Indigenous employees and students, Indigenous Canadian Armed Forces members transitioning to the public service, and military and public service managers hiring and/or supporting Indigenous employees.

They provide:

  • support with DND and other public service recruitment processes, including interview preparation;
  • tools to help with career navigation and advancement, like resume writing and learning plan development; and
  • information on human resources programs and services.

Navigators also assist managers in recruiting Indigenous Peoples and supporting Indigenous employees in their teams. Managers seeking new team members can receive referrals, resumes of qualified candidates, and additional guidance.

By fostering diversity and inclusion, the ICNP helps create a more equitable, safe and welcoming Defence Team.
