Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs meets with Ambassador of Chile, Ambassador of Mexico, and Chargé d'Affaires of Brazil to Thailand

On 10 March 2026, Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Mr. Patricio Fernando Powell Osorio, Ambassador of the Republic of Chile to Thailand; H.E. Ms. Ilse Lilián Ferrer Silva, Ambassador of the United Mexican States to Thailand; and Mr. Matias A. S. Vilhena, Chargé d'Affaires of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Thailand.

This discussion was held at the request of the three countries to introduce the candidature of H.E. Ms. Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, for the position of United Nations Secretary-General for the term 2027-2031. The governments of Chile, Mexico and Brazil are jointly nominating her candidature. The Deputy Permanent Secretary conveyed Thailand's support for the selection and appointment process of the United Nations Secretary General based on qualifications, vision, plan of action, and expertise. Both sides also discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including the friendly cooperation on reciprocal support arrangements with regard to Thailand - Chile, Mexico, and Brazil's respective candidatures in international organizations.
