Business Major Prepares for a Career in Project Management

July 1, 2026

From developing a business plan to balancing academics and athletics, Lucy Bowers is building the collaboration, leadership, and organizational skills to prepare for a career in project management.

Lucy Bowers is a junior at EWU, majoring in business management. Passionate about turning theory into practice, she excels in applied learning environments that connect classroom concepts with real-world business challenges.

Bowers took a marketing class last spring quarter and collaborated with classmates on a group project to create a full-fledged business plan. This project allowed them to experience the process of developing a marketing plan and presentation. Bowers was in charge of the digital design aspect, which included drafting a logo that accurately reflected their business, and contributed to writing the marketing strategy. Throughout this group collaboration, Bowers realized the indispensable value of proper work allocation and consistent communication with team members.

"I've learned a lot about the importance of organization and time management, especially if you want to succeed."

In addition to her studies, Bowers is an active member of EWU's club volleyball team, balancing the demands of athletics with her academic commitments. The experience has sharpened her time-management abilities, resilience, and teamwork skills-qualities she frequently draws upon in group projects and leadership roles.

Her academic interests center on project management, a field she is eager to explore further through internships and specialized coursework. She is particularly fascinated by the processes of initiating, planning, and executing projects that drive organizational success. Ultimately, Bowers aims to build a strong foundation in business management and pursue a career in project management.

Focused and community-oriented, Bowers embodies the spirit of a well-rounded student at EWU, combining academic excellence, athletic dedication, and a clear vision for her future in business.
