Update: City of Southfield Opens Cooling Centers During Extreme Heat

In response to forecasted extreme heat, the City of Southfield will open cooling centers for residents seeking relief from dangerous temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch through Friday, July 3, 2026.

Forecast conditions include:

• Daytime highs in the mid to upper 90s
• Heat index values of 105°F or higher
• Overnight temperatures remaining in the 70s
• Potential for near-record daytime and overnight temperatures

Location: Southfield Public Library

• Wednesday, July 1 12pm-8pm
• Thursday, July 2 9am-8pm

Residents are encouraged to:

• Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.
• Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
• Check on older adults, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness, such as dizziness, confusion, nausea, or loss of consciousness, should call 911 or seek immediate medical attention.
