County Office on Aging invites community to free Alzheimer’s and related dementias meetings Oct. 14,

The County of Maui Department of Human Concerns Office on Aging is inviting the community to two free meetings this month in Wailuku that will offer information on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

• 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, at J. Walter Cameron Center, Conference Room 1, Wailuku (to watch the meeting online, visit https://tinyurl.com/msvshj5s): The Maui County Council on Aging will feature Tani Salazar, Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Services Coordinator with the State Executive Office on Aging, who will provide an overview of the Hawaiʻi Dementia Initiative and the Dementia Champion Campaign. Salazar will share how community partners can support, participate in and amplify these statewide efforts to build dementia-friendly communities. • 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at the J. Walter Cameron Center Auditorium, Wailuku: The Alzheimer's Association will host a "Listen & Learn" session featuring Dr. Gina Fujikami, geriatrician with The Queen's Health System. Fujikami's presentation, "The Future of Brain Health: Hope, Research & Prevention," will highlight practical steps that individuals and families can take to protect cognitive health across the lifespan, covering lifestyle changes that can lower dementia risk, the latest research on brain resilience and prevention, and ways to take charge of cognitive health at any age. County Executive on Aging Rowena Dagdag-Andaya said the events highlight the importance of partnerships and promoting awareness, compassion and support for those affected by dementia.

"The County's Office on Aging is committed to empowering Maui's residents, especially those whose lives are touched by Alzheimer's and other dementias," Dagdag-Andaya said. "By working together and sharing credible, up-to-date information, we can help families face these challenges with hope and confidence."
