One county road bridge set to open, second will close
What: A new bridge on the west end of Fiddler Green Road over Red Bluff Creek is scheduled to open next week, while a second bridge on the east end of the same road is scheduled to close for replacement. The bridge opening to traffic is about 6.5 miles southeast of Pearson. The bridge scheduled to close is less than a mile south of Axson. A detour for non-local/through traffic will remain in place for that bridge and motorists should follow posted detour signs. The Georgia Department of Transportation in late 2025 awarded an approximately $4.75 million construction contract for replacement of the two bridges.

Where: Both bridges are on Fiddler Green Road over Red Bluff Creek in Atkinson County. The new west bridge located southeast of Pearson is scheduled to open. The east bridge located south of Axson is scheduled to close.

When: Opening of the west bridge and closure of the east bridge are scheduled for Wednesday, May 27. The date is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
