The Southern Region of the National Lawyers Guild joins immigrant rights, labor, and community groups in Georgia in condemning the violent and unlawful raid at the Hyundai Supplier and LG Energy Solution plant on September 4. This was the largest workplace ICE raid in history, with 475 people kidnapped in a militarized assault on the plant. We extend our love and solidarity to the workers and families impacted by this raid, and all the communities that are under attack across the country.
"The raid last week made it apparent that ICE's only intention is not to make communities safer, it's to target vulnerable workers who make this country run. ICE's reign of terror must come to an end, and ICE must be abolished," said NLG member Samantha Hamilton, an attorney at Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta.
As ICE expands its attacks on workers and neighbors, we are expanding our actions to build power across the US South. We commit to deepening our collective efforts to support migrant communities, combat these attacks, and challenge the apparatus of detention centers and militarized law enforcement that make them possible. The National Lawyers Guild rejects the criminalization of migration, mutual aid, and protest. We stand with the millions of people across the country who are organizing against the cruel and unconscionable actions of ICE and the federal government.
