AI is one of the biggest opportunities facing the technology channel, but opportunity alone doesn't guarantee outcomes.
That was at the heart of AI Without Limits, where Westcoast brought together Dell Technologies, NVIDIA and Fidra Analytics to cut through the noise and explore what it really takes to turn AI into measurable business value.
From AI infrastructure and deskside inferencing to data, governance and Westcoast's own AI journey, one message came through clearly: successful AI starts with the business problem, not the technology.
Start with the outcome, not the AI.
With hundreds of potential AI use cases, it's easy to start by asking, "What can we do with AI?" A better question is: "What problem are we trying to solve?"
Time saved. Risk reduced. Faster decisions. Better customer experiences. These are outcomes businesses understand and can measure. AI is simply one way of achieving them.
For partners, that means starting with the customer's challenges before talking about particular technologies, models or vendors.
Customers need help moving from pilots to progress
Interest in AI isn't the problem. Turning experimentation into meaningful deployment often is.
Research shared at the event found that 73% of UK and Ireland mid-market organisations surveyed have deployed AI, yet 90% have stalled or remain at an early pilot stage.
Data quality, governance, integration, skills and adoption can all become barriers to progress. That's where partners have an important role to play, helping customers build the right foundations and connect the different pieces of their AI strategy.
And it doesn't need to begin with a huge transformation programme. One of the key messages from the day was simple: start small, prove value and scale on evidence.
Dell Technologies and NVIDIA also explored how AI is moving closer to where people work and where data lives.
Deskside and edge AI can give organisations new options for workloads where data sovereignty, security, latency or predictable costs matter. Rather than assuming every AI workload belongs in the cloud, customers should consider the right combination of deskside, data centre and cloud infrastructure for what they're trying to achieve.
For partners, it's another reason why understanding the use case has to come before recommending the technology.
AI can only be as effective as the foundations underneath it.
Poor data quality, unclear ownership and weak governance can quickly limit the value organisations achieve. At the same time, employees may already be experimenting with AI tools whether or not the business has introduced a formal strategy.
The answer isn't to stop innovation. It's to make AI governed, secure and useful, with clear policies around data, access, accountability and risk.
We're learning by doing it ourselves
Perhaps the most important story we shared at AI Without Limits was our own.
WISA, Westcoast Intelligent Solutions Advisor, was created to solve a very real problem for our sales teams: finding accurate product information quickly across a complex vendor portfolio.
We didn't start by saying, "We need AI." We started with the business problem.
The impact has been significant. Product search time has fallen from around 3.5 minutes to seven seconds, approximately 500 team hours are being saved each month, and around an hour a day has been returned to each seller.
That's less time searching for answers and more time having valuable conversations with partners.
Our journey has also reinforced that technology is only part of successful AI adoption. Clean data, strong governance, training, internal champions and continuous user feedback have all been critical.
The opportunity for partners
One of our biggest takeaways from AI Without Limits is that you don't need to be an AI expert to start an AI conversation.
Where are people losing time? What processes are holding the business back? Is the data ready? What needs to be governed? Where could AI deliver a measurable result?
Westcoast can then help bring the pieces together, from leading technology and infrastructure to specialist expertise, services and implementation support.
Because ultimately, AI success isn't about selling the latest technology.
It's about helping customers turn possibility into progress and proving the value along the way.
