Weekend Events Include the Polish Constitution Day Parade, St. Jude Memorial March, Cinco de Miler Run and more

CHICAGO - The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) is encouraging residents and visitors in Chicago this weekend to be aware of the spring events happening around the city and to be vigilant in crowds and report suspicious criminal activity to 9-1-1.

OEMC will monitor weekend events and weather conditions citywide from the Operations Center and public safety resources with the Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department and City of Chicago infrastructure departments. The Chicago Police Department will have additional resources visible and present across the city to protect all those exercising their First Amendment Rights, as well as all those living, working and visiting affected areas.

Residents should be aware of possible delays in areas around events, parades or marches in neighborhoods and the Central Business District. There will be an increased police presence to ensure all those exercising their First Amendment rights can do so safely. Additional officers will also be present to maintain public safety for those living, working and visiting in the area of any demonstration.

Spring Boat Bridge Lifts

As a reminder, expect bridge lifts on Saturday, May 2, beginning at 8 a.m. with the raising of 27 bridges from South Ashland Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

May Day Rally & March at Union Park

The program is set to take place from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. followed by a march from Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St. to Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington St. where the event will conclude.

Route: From Union Park on Washington St to Racine Ave; Racine Ave to Jackson Blvd; Jackson Blvd to Halsted St, Halsted St to Washington St; Washington St to Daley Plaza

Chicago Cubs v. Arizona Diamondbacks

Police Memorial Run to Remember, 8 a.m., at the Gold Star Families Memorial & Park

The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation's annual 5K run/walk raises funds to support families of fallen and catastrophically injured Chicago Police Officers. Cinco de Miler 5-Mile Run, 8:30 a.m. at Montrose Harbor

Polish Constitution Day Parade, 11:30 a.m., Columbus Drive

The Polish Constitution Day Parade celebrates the first in Europe and the Second in the World, after the US democratic Constitution of 1791. The parade will step-off at 11:30 a.m. and proceed north on Columbus from Balbo to Jackson. For additional details, visit polishparade.org

St. Jude Memorial March, 8 a.m. at Michigan Avenue and Chicago Avenue in River North

The St. Jude Memorial March is a Chicago Police Department tradition honoring fallen Chicago Police Officers and their families. This year marks the 93rd Annual Memorial March. Gold Star Families are invited to join in the march paying tribute to their family members.

Assembly begins at 6:30 a.m. on Michigan Avenue between Superior Street and Wacker Drive. The reviewing stand will be located at 55 E. Chicago Avenue. Step off is at 8 a.m. at Michigan and Superior. The line of march is as follows:

  • Northbound from 732 N. Michigan Ave. to Chicago Ave.
  • Westbound on Chicago Ave. to Clark St. , maintaining line of march and disband.
  • Media Staging: North side of Chicago Ave., just west of Rush St.
  • At the conclusion of the march there will be a 15-minute interfaith service at the reviewing stand.

No Parking, on all streets within Oak St.to the Chicago River and LaSalle Dr to Saint Clair St. on Sunday, May 3 from 4 a.m. until noon.

Grant Park and Lakefront Pole Markers/Location Identifiers: For public safety on the lakefront throughout the year and during events and concerts residents and visitors are reminded to be aware of the numbers attached to the poles along sidewalks throughout the Grant Park area as well as various points along the lakefront and on DuSable Lake Shore Drive from 5700 North to 6600 South. The pole markers help reference their location within the park to event security and first responders if there is an emergency.

OEMC advises Chicagoans to be aware of weather conditions, follow instructions and heed all warnings from public safety officials. We encourage residents to check the weather before heading out.
