The City of North Port and Sarasota County Schools are working together to help parents and students recognize concerns, respond when a child may need help and connect with trusted resources. You Are Not Alone: Protecting Our Children will take place from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 W. Price Blvd.

In a unified effort to enhance student safety, City Manager Jerome Fletcher and Sarasota County Schools Superintendent Terry Connor will help lead an important community conversation about child protection. The partnership brings together City and school district resources to connect local families with information, practical tools and trusted support.

Parent and youth breakout sessions will be led by Selah Freedom, the Child Protection Center and SPARCC. Sessions will address recognizing signs of child abuse or exploitation, prevention and reporting incidents, online safety and digital awareness. The North Port Police Department's Cyber Crimes Unit will lead the closing session.

Before the sessions, families can speak one-on-one with representatives from local community resource partners at dedicated tables. Representatives will share information about family support, mental health services, victim advocacy, digital safety and other available programs.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend with their middle and high school-aged children. The free event will offer age-appropriate information, practical tools and an opportunity to begin important conversations together. Educators and others who support children and families are also welcome. For more information and the agenda, visit NorthPortFL.gov/YANA.
