Binghamton Fire Department Reminds Residents Ahead Of July 4th Weekend:
Fireworks Are Illegal And Unsafe

- Residents Encouraged To Enjoy Professional Fireworks Shows For Independence Day-

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.) - Mayor Jared M. Kraham joined the Binghamton Fire Department on Thursday to remind residents that unpermitted fireworks are illegal in the City of Binghamton.

Mayor Kraham said: "Setting off unpermitted fireworks in neighborhoods and parks is not only dangerous - it's also illegal. I'm joining the Binghamton Fire Department in encouraging residents to celebrate the Fourth of July safely and responsibly this year. Refrain from using illegal fireworks and enjoy one of our community's professional fireworks shows instead. Doing so keeps community members safe and helps out our first responders on one of their busiest days of the year. "

Fire Chief Thomas P. Edwards said: "In previous years, fireworks have been responsible for causing serious personal injuries and even started dangerous building fires when used by anyone other than permitted professionals. The Binghamton Fire Department is asking residents, and those visiting our city, to refrain from unpermitted fireworks this holiday weekend and throughout the summer months to help keep our residents, our community, and our members safe."

The Binghamton Police Department's Community Response Team (CRT) will be cracking down on illegal fireworks over the holiday weekend. CRT has made illegal fireworks in neighborhoods a focus during holiday weeks in recent years, leading to fewer complaints.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are hosting two professional fireworks shows at Mirabito Stadium on July 3 and 4.

To report a non-emergency fireworks complaint, residents can call dispatch at (607) 723-5321.
