The President of the Committee for Economic Development has travelled to Jersey to meet with her counterparts there, to discuss mutual issues around the economy and opportunities for the islands to work together.
On Friday 29th August, the visit saw Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller meet with Deputy Kirsten Morel, Minister for Sustainable Economic Development and Deputy Ian Gorst, Minister for External Relations and Finance alongside officers from their Committees on her first external visit as President.
Sea links were one of the main points of discussion and agreement that there were opportunities for the islands to work together on improving inter-island connectivity. It was agreed conversations around this matter would continue going forwards.
Digital, innovation and Open Banking were also discussed as areas of mutual interest, following a visit to Digital Jersey.
Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, Guernsey's President of Economic Development, said:
"I was pleased to have the opportunity last week to meet with Deputy Morel and Deputy Gorst and discuss the number of matters within our mandates which are of mutual interest and importance to both islands. I would like to thank both of them and officers for their kind hospitality and hosting. We already collaborate successfully in various areas and I am keen that we explore further opportunities where we can. I am looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together, particularly, in the immediate future, with inter-island ferry links as well as exploring opportunities around Open Banking."
Deputy Kirsten Morel, Jersey's Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, said:
"Deputy Kazantseva-Miller and I had a good meeting which I feel will be the start of a strong and productive working relationship. We discussed common areas ranging from cyber security to open banking, and I am confident that progress can be made in many areas which are of importance to the Channel Islands' business community. We agreed to work on building upon the current inter-island ferry connectivity and believe that good progress can be made over the coming months."
Deputy Ian Gorst, Jersey's Minister for External Relations, said:
"It was a pleasure to welcome Deputy Kazantseva-Miller to Jersey, and I look forward to working with her on matters of mutual interest. As international financial centres, Jersey and Guernsey already work closely together on areas of common interest, and it is clear that our political working relationship will grow stronger."
