Short-Term Rental Major Event Applications

The Kansas City Short-Term Rental (STR) Officesets the deadline to submit Major Event applications for short-term rentals operating during the 2026 World Cup at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2026. The STR Office will continue to accept Annual Registration applications for both Resident and Non-Resident short-term rental operators beyond this deadline.

Since December 2025, the STR Office has received more than 800 Major Event and Annual Short-Term Rental applications. To date, nearly half of these applications have been approved and registrations issued. The STR Office continues to actively review and process all remaining submissions.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to check their application status through CompassKC to ensure that all required documentation is complete and accurate.

• "Awaiting Customer" Status
  This status indicates that your application contains missing or incorrect information. Corrections must be made before the application can move forward toward approval.

• "Extended" Status
  This status means your property is ready for inspection. A member of the STR team will contact you to schedule an inspection appointment.

• Inspection Availability: Inspections are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and Saturdays, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

Property owners should ensure they are applying for the correct application type:

• Major Event Application: $50 fee, non-renewable, valid only for May 3 - July 31, 2026, for World Cup events
• Annual Application: $200 fee, eligible to renew annually for year-round short-term rental operations
