Europe Day 2026: Celebrating the Partnership between the European Union and the Republic of the Congo

On 9 May 2026, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of the Congo celebrated Europe Day at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Brazzaville, in the presence of numerous Congolese authorities, institutional partners, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of civil society and private sector stakeholders.

This year's celebration held particular significance, coming only a few weeks after the appointment of the new Congolese Government. The event notably marked the first official participation of the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese Abroad, H.E. Mr Constant Serge Bounda, in an activity organised by the European Union, alongside several members of the Congolese Government.

On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration - the founding act of the European Union - the celebration provided an opportunity to reaffirm the values at the heart of the European project: peace, solidarity, cooperation among peoples, democracy and respect for international law.

In her remarks, the Ambassador of the European Union stressed that, in an international context marked by numerous tensions and uncertainties, multilateralism remains essential to preserving peace and addressing global challenges. She also welcomed the Republic of the Congo's commitment to these principles, regularly reaffirmed by the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr Denis Sassou N'Guesso.

The evening also highlighted the strong and long-standing partnership between the European Union and the Republic of the Congo, built on mutual respect, dialogue and a shared ambition: to concretely improve people's lives.
