Nuclear Accident at Kuosheng NPP Upgraded to Site Emergency; Central EOC Expands Response and Continues Monitoring (Jul 23, 2026)
The Nuclear Accident Central Emergency Operation Center stated that because Kuosheng NPP encountered a serious security incident, it has been evaluated as meeting the criteria for a "site emergency," and the Central EOC announced the upgrade of the accident level, having expanded its response organization to continuously monitor fire suppression, security, equipment safety, and radiation monitoring conditions.
Currently, Kuosheng NPP is carrying out firefighting and self-defense operations, and radiation monitoring of the plant and surrounding environment is ongoing. The Central EOC will rollingly review public protective measures based on accident developments and monitoring results; the public is requested not to travel to the accident area on their own and to take action in accordance with the latest information released by the government.
The Central EOC has also initiated relevant international communication and notification operations, providing necessary information according to accident developments and maintaining contact with relevant countries and units.
The government will release the latest news through the Disaster Prevention Cell Broadcast Service (CBS), television, radio, official websites, and social media. If the public has any questions, they can call the 1999 citizen service hotline or the Nuclear Safety Commission at 02-8231-7919 for inquiries.
