ITD invites community to comment on SH-55 Banks-Lowman Intersection improvements

BOISE COUNTY - The Idaho Transportation Department is hosting several opportunities for the community to provide input on the proposed improvements to the State Highway 55 Banks-Lowman Intersection. Plans include widening the intersection to improve safety and mobility, replacing two bridges and installing a permanent traffic signal.

Community members can participate in-person or online to review the new design and provide comments.

In-person meetings:

  • Thursday, Aug. 27, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
    • American Legion Post 60 (105 E Mill St, Cascade)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Garden Valley High School (1053 Banks Lowman Road, Garden Valley)

The meetings will be open-house format, and participants are welcome to drop in anytime to speak with project representatives. Community members can also drop into these locations to see project information:

  • Bear Valley Rafting (7864 Idaho 55, Banks, ID) on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Brundage Summer Concert Series (3890 Goose Lake Road, McCall, ID) on Friday, Sept. 4, from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Also, beginning Aug. 24, project information and plans will be available online at: itd.idaho.gov/project/55bankslowman/. The online comment form will be open for three weeks from Monday, Aug. 24 to Monday, Sept. 14.

ITD installed a temporary traffic signal at the intersection in 2025 to manage heavy traffic and reduce long backups. Before the signal was installed, ITD used flaggers during peak travel periods. The proposed improvements will provide a safer, more reliable long-term solution.
