Cameron University associate professor David R. Bublitz will celebrate the release of "The Depend-Ant," a children's book about family military service, with a book release party on Thursday, September 25, at 6 p.m. in the Buddy Green Room of the McMahon Centennial Complex. During the event, Bublitz will read from the work, which he wrote and illustrated.
Inspired by Bublitz's experience as a military dependent, "The Depend-Ant" follows a young depend-ant Lor, who is learning about the life of soldier ants when her Auntie Cathay is sent to combat. When Cathay returns home with an injury, Lor must learn what it really means to be a soldier and a depend-ant.
Bublitz is a 2015 Pangaea Prize finalist and a Naugatuck River Review narrative poetry contest finalist. His first full collection of poems, "Combat Pay," was published in March 2020. His poetry has been published in numerous magazines and collections.
A CU alumnus, Bublitz earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in journalism in 2006, a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication with a concentration in journalism in 2008, and a Master of Education degree with a concentration in teaching and learning in 2011. He joined the CU faculty in 2013. Bublitz completed a Master of Fine Arts degree at Oklahoma City University, where he was a founding editor of "The Red Earth Review," the university's graduate literary magazine.
