The next regular Yuma City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Here are some of the items scheduled to be presented to City Council for consideration:
Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Budget
Required public hearings on the budget, property tax levy, and 13 Municipal Improvement Districts will be held before Council considers adopting the Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Budget. The budget sets the maximum amount the City may spend during the fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2026, and ends June 30, 2027. The budget includes funding for day-to-day City operations, maintenance improvement districts, and the capital improvement projects.
Fiscal Year 2027- 2031 Capital Improvement Program
A resolution adopting the Fiscal Year 2027- 2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) will be presented to Council for consideration. The five-year plan identifies proposed investments in City infrastructure and facilities. The first year is funded through the Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Budget, while years two through five are based on existing fund balances and reasonably anticipated revenues. The program is reviewed and updated annually.
Proposition 436: Permanent Base Adjustment
Council will consider adopting an ordinance to place Proposition 436 on the November 3 General Election ballot for voter consideration. The measure would ask voters whether to approve a $30 million Permanent Base Adjustment to the City's 1979-80 expenditure base, which is used to calculate the City's state-established annual expenditure limitation (AEL). A Permanent Base Adjustment would not increase taxes, create new fees, or generate new revenue. The City would continue to adopt balanced budgets annually and limit spending to available revenues.
Proposition 437: Nomination Petition Signatures
The ordinance to place Proposition 437 to place the item on the November 3 General Election ballot for voter consideration will be considered by Council for adoption. The measure would ask voters whether to approve a change to the City Charter related to how the number of required nomination petition signatures is calculated for City elected office. The requirement would remain 3 to 5 percent of ballots cast and would be based on the preceding primary municipal election instead of the preceding general municipal election.
Playground Equipment for Carver and Clymer Parks
Council will consider ratifying the purchase of new playground equipment for Carver and Clymer Parks. The project would replace aging playground equipment that has reached the end of its useful life and help improve safety, accessibility, and long-term use of the parks. The replacement aligns with the City's Parks, Arts, Recreation and Trails Master Plan by reinvesting in neighborhood park amenities.
