Black History Month: Rooted in Soul, Rising in Power

Black History Month: Rooted in Soul, Rising in Power

February 2, 2026

We are excited to invite you to join us in celebrating Black History Month 2026, a historic year marking the 100th anniversary of this important national commemoration.

This year's theme, "Rooted in Soul. Rising in Power," honors the rich cultural legacy of Black communities and the creativity, resilience, and imagination that continue to shape our world. Black History Month invites us to reflect on the past, engage the present, and envision a future where Black communities can live, thrive, and flourish unapologetically.

Throughout the month, WWU will host a series of programs, events, and collaborations designed to educate, celebrate, and build community. These offerings create space to honor Black history, culture, and contributions, while also encouraging dialogue, learning, and collective responsibility.

All members of the campus community are invited to participate - whether by attending events, engaging in reflection, or taking steps to support and advocate for Black students and communities year-round. Black history is American history, and this month is an opportunity for us to learn, grow, and celebrate together.

Visit the Black History Month 2026 website for a full list of events.
