Spokane Police Urge Public to Stay Out of Fire Evacuation Areas

The Spokane Police Department is asking everyone to stay out of wildfire evacuation areas unless you are a resident evacuating.

These areas remain extremely dangerous. Fire conditions can change rapidly, roads may be blocked without warning, burst gas lines are actively burning, and heavy smoke creates additional hazards.

Every individual or vehicle entering an evacuation zone diverts firefighters, police officers, and other first responders from their primary mission of protecting lives, homes, and containing the fire. If emergency personnel have to respond to unauthorized individuals in evacuation areas, critical resources are pulled away from those who need them most.

We understand the desire to check on property, but no home or photograph is worth risking your life or the lives of those who may have to rescue you. If you believe family members are within the evacuation zone and are missing or unresponsive call Crime Check and provide the appropriate information and SPD will conduct a welfare check.

Please respect all road closures, evacuation notices, and the directions of emergency personnel. By staying out of evacuation zones, you are helping first responders keep our community safe.
