San José City Hall, City Offices Closed February 16 and 17, 2026: While most City services will be closed in observance of the President's Day and Lunar New Year holidays, public safety and utility services will operate.

Garbage and Recycling Service: Garbage, recycling, and yard trimmings collection will not be affected by these holidays and will occur on your normal day. Residents can contact their garbage, recycling, junk pickup, and yard trimmings company or use San José 311 for more information. Registration for Spring Recreation and Summer Fun at Community Centers: General registration for Spring 2026 recreation classes and Summer 2026 camps and swim lessons opens to San José residents on Saturday, February 7, at 10 a.m. General registration for non-San José residents begins on Monday, February 9, at 10 a.m. Registration is available in person at

www.sjregistration.com. Scholarships are open for qualifying residents ages 0-49, older adults ages 50+, and All Access Program participants. Best Prepared Designer Program Training: Get permits faster. The Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement Department's Building Division's Best Prepared Designer Program is offering a free training for design professionals and licensed contractors Wednesday, February 11 at San José City Hall from 9 a.m. to noon. The program enables fast permit issuance on eligible projects. Professionals who complete the program will take full responsibility for building code compliance, bypassing the standard plan review process. Learn more and register at

February Park Volunteer Events: Volunteer to clean up San José parks with the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department. All volunteers ages 6+ are welcome to participate. Participants under 18 are required to present a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Happy Hollow Park & Zoo Wildlife Conservation Grants: Happy Hollow is accepting applications for two conservation-focused grant funds. Progress for Pollinators grants support the creation or improvement of pollinator habitat in public areas of Santa Clara County. Awards of up to $2,500 are available for schools, non-profit organizations, scout troops, and other community organizations. The Quarters for Conservation grant provides awards of up to $25,000 for international projects that advance wildlife conservation or research. Both grant applications are due no later than Sunday, March 1. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
San José Small Business Start-Up Grant Program Now Open: The City of San José is offering funding to support early-stage small businesses. Eligible businesses can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to help cover start-up costs such as licensing, equipment purchases, staff recruitment, or loan down payments. The program is open to for-profit businesses registered in San José with fewer than 35 employees. Applications are available in English, Español, and Việt Ngữ and are due by Friday, March 6.
