Upgraded housing loan program boosts support for newlyweds, childrearing families

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai was briefed by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on version 3.0 of a housing loan program for young homebuyers. The premier said that the updated program, which aligns with the government's new population strategy, will expand home purchase assistance for married, childrearing families. The MOF will implement version 3.0 of the program starting August 1 to support young, first-time owner-occupier homebuyers, as well as to alleviate the housing burden on married households with children.

Premier Cho noted that version 1.0 of the program was launched in December 2010 to help young people realize their dream of owning a home and starting a family, and was subsequently upgraded to version 2.0 in August 2023. As of the end of June 2026, the program has helped more than 510,000 non-homeowning households to purchase new homes, including approximately 170,000 under version 2.0.

The premier said the program prioritizes four areas: reducing borrowers' financial burdens, supporting happy marriage and childrearing, precisely targeting those in need, and strengthening administrative mechanisms. Key measures include loan interest subsidies, higher loan ceilings, and expanded eligibility criteria relating to applicants' age, income, and total property value. Pre-loan screening and post-loan management will also be conducted to ensure government resources are used fairly and effectively. Premier Cho said these measures aim to steadily advance the goal of housing justice in Taiwan.
